Lion (Panthera leo) with an injured eye. Andrei Snyman, researcher treats the eye. The eye has had a traumatic event, perhaps a claw/thorn causing a penetrating corneal lesion which has resulted in a pan-opthamia (generalized infection of the eye) with subsequent migration of healing cells and fluid into the cornea (blue color) and vascularization ( blood vessel infiltration) which is an attempt by the body to heal the lesion - unfortunately it has also resulted in a glaucoma (swelling of the eye) - the outcome of which is - even if the cornea heals he will probably end up permanently blind with the eye eventually collapsing and shriveling up.
