One of our favourite mountain biking areas on the Garden Route is in the Goudveld Forests at Rheenendal just outside Knysna. It’s part of the 120 000 Garden Route National Park and we’ve really enjoyed cycling the cool, shaded, forest roads and single tracks.
As a change, we left the bikes at home and decided to explore the Jubilee Creek area on foot, taking in the verdant temperate forests, the tannin coloured waters of Millwood Creek, abundant birdlife and beautiful forest flowers. In the 1880s this was a mining area, many of the old, deserted mines and water furrows remain, forlorn reminders of a short lived bygone era.
