Huts, chalets or Bungalos at Skukuza Camp. Kruger National Park. Mpumalanga. South Africa. Skukuza is the main camp in the Kruger National Park. The name, adapted from Sikhukhuza (isiZulu), was a nickname for James Stevenson-Hamilton. It could be translated as 'a new broom', as Stevenson-Hamilton swept the area clean of poachers and outlaws. Skukuza is located in the southern part of Kruger and is the most popular and accessible camp, and one of the best for game viewing. In the vicinity of the camp all of the African Big Five can be found as well as other recognisable and exciting animals.
View of Baobab Hill is just to the west of the H1-8 that links Punda Maria Camp to the Pafuri area in the north of the Kruger Park. This used to be the first outspan or camp site (a plaque marks the spot) for migrant workers from the northern areas (what is now Mozambique), who had been recruited to work in the gold mines of the interior.
